Fine-art photographer Gray Malin captures the beauty and idiosyncrasies of beaches and coastal regions around the world

Since 2011, when he was inspired by a photo he took from a hotel balcony looking down on a busy swimming pool, Los Angeles-based fine-art photographer Gray Malin has been hanging out of a helicopter making images of beaches and other coastal regions around the world. ‘Each destination has its own unique idiosyncrasies, but the beach itself is a symbol of happiness that is universally joyful, nostalgic and calming. Capturing this feeling in my images is the best part of my work,’ he writes in his new book, Gray Malin: Coastal, a selection of images from which are showcased here.
