Folding e-bikes have long been popular with UK commuters, particularly those combining cycling with trains, buses, or compact city living. With the launch of the ADO Air Carbon, ADO enters this space with a clear focus on what urban riders value most: light weight, easy portability, and everyday usability.

At just 12.5 kg, the Air Carbon positions itself as the lightest folding electric bike, making it an appealing option for commuters navigating stairs, platforms, offices, and small flats.

Ultra-lightweight carbon construction

The standout feature of the ADO Air Carbon is its full carbon fibre frame and front fork; a material more commonly associated with performance road bikes than folding e-bikes. This construction keeps overall weight to a minimum while maintaining strength and ride stability.

For commuters who regularly lift their bike onto trains or carry it indoors, the reduced weight makes a noticeable difference. The bike folds in approximately 10 seconds, allowing it to be stored under a desk, beside a seat, or in limited home storage without hassle.

Smooth assistance for city riding

Despite its minimal weight, the Air Carbon does not compromise on performance. It is powered by a 250W BAFANG rear hub motor (UK road legal), paired with an intelligent torque sensor that adjusts assistance based on sensing the pressure put on pedalling. The result is a smooth, less effort yet natural riding feels well suited to stop-start city traffic and varied urban terrain.

A carbon belt drive replaces the traditional chain, offering quiet operation and significantly reduced maintenance. With a lifespan of up to 30,000 km, the belt drive is particularly practical for year-round UK riding, staying clean and unaffected by rain or road grime.

Practical range for everyday commuting

The 367 Wh removable seat tube battery delivers up to 100 km (approx. 62 miles) of assisted range on a single charge, depending on riding conditions and support level. For most urban commuters, this translates to several days — or even a full week — of riding, reducing the need for frequent recharging.

This makes the Air Carbon well suited to daily commutes in cities such as London, Manchester, or Birmingham, as well as weekend leisure rides.

Built-in security for urban living

Security is a major concern for city riders, and ADO has addressed this with an integrated GPS anti-theft system. Through a mobile app, riders can track the bike’s location, receive movement alerts, and digitally lock or unlock the system.

For those parking outside offices, stations, or cafés, this added layer of security provides reassurance beyond traditional locks alone.

A lightweight alternative at a competitive price

Lightweight electric folding bikes often come at a premium, with many models priced well above £2,000. The ADO Air Carbon, available in the UK from £1,699, undercuts much of the competition while offering a carbon frame, belt drive and integrated smart features.

For commuters looking to reduce reliance on cars or public transport — without sacrificing portability or performance — the Air Carbon presents a compelling option.
