Geographical January 2023

23 December 2022
< 1 minute

January 2023

In the January issue of Geographical, we look at why the sixth-longest river in the USA is running out of water. The Colorado River no longer reaches the Gulf of California, sucked dry by over-exploitation and drought. Jonas Kako travelled from the snow-capped peaks of the Rocky Mountains down to the deserts on the border with Mexico and documents with stunning photographs and revealing interviews the impact of these dramatic changes

Elsewhere in the magazine, we investigate the challenges facing pastoralists as this low-impact lifestyle struggles with climate change and the ever-increasing demands for land; Nick Redmayne visits Sri Lanka to see how it is recovering from a year of turmoil and Daniel Allen reports from a hugely ambitious rewilding initiative in Argentina’s Iberá Wetlands.
