Explore the challenges & future of deer management in Scotland, and discover what change means for wild places in the nation
One million. That’s how many wild deer are estimated to live in Scotland, up from around 500,000 back in 1990. Exploring their impact on the Scottish landscape is Clear on Deer, a 30-minute documentary produced by the John Muir Trust and presented by wildlife and nature filmmaker Libby Penman.
The film explores of the challenges and future of deer management in Scotland, with Scotland’s deer population having a devastating impact on Scotland’s climate and biodiversity targets. Their impact on the land and suppression of regeneration means Scotland’s land is emitting vast amounts of carbon into the atmosphere, when it could be absorbing it.
