How the Alladale Nature Reserve is helping transform the Scottish Highlands
After a childhood of adventure travel followed by 20 years in the furniture industry, Paul Lister turned his life’s purpose to nature, established The European Nature Trust (TENT), and acquired Alladale Wilderness Reserve.
Over the last two decades, Paul and his dedicated team have set about restoring the reserve’s flora and fauna to abundance, with the vision of creating a healthier, more balanced and self-sustaining ecosystem reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands before overgrazing and deforestation.
On Alladale’s journey so far, a million trees have been planted, damaged peatlands have been repaired, the native red squirrel has been successfully reintroduced, a Scottish Wildcat breeding centre has been established, and the reserve has become a base for reconnection and learning for school children across Scotland. This short video tells Alladale’s story.
