In the April issue of Geographical, we announce the winners of the MPB Geographical Better World Video Awards. We received hundreds of entries since the competition launched last summer, each telling a story of the individuals and organisations that are working to make the world a better place. Some shared ideas for sustainable ways to feed our growing planet, others focused on ways to bring communities together and tackle issues such as loneliness. Finally, two inspirational films were chosen by a readers’ vote.
Also in this month’s issue: Neuroscientist turned science journalist Clayton Page Aldern reports on the link between climate change and neurological health problems; Bryony Cottam talks to Chris Thorogood about his quest to save the world’s largest and smelliest flower; Stuart Butler returns to Iraq, where a new type of tourism is attracting new visitors; and Hillary Renick, president of the California Indian Land Institute, shares how Indigenous people have long used fire as a vital land management tool.
