Poachers are putting scarlet macaws in Belize at risk of extinction
With around just 150 mating pairs of scarlet macaws left in the wild, Belize has seen a dangerous decline in its population due to deforestation and poaching.
Friends for Conservation and Development (FCD) is a non-profit, non-governmental organisation and ranger force working to protect the scarlet macaw population in Chiquibul National Park through wildlife monitoring, law enforcement, and chick rehabilitation.
This video, shot by Brian Moghari and Filipe Deandrade with Nature Trust of the Americas, showcases the threats these beautiful birds face and the efforts made by FCD to prevent their extinction.
