Better World Video Awards 2024: Preserving a green oasis in the heart of London

17 January 2024
< 1 minute

How a community came together to safeguard Meath Gardens in Tower Hamlets

The inspiring story of how inner London housing estate residents got together to protect their local park. First, they stopped council contractors from mistakenly chopping down one of Meath Gardens’ most beautiful mature trees. Encouraged by their success, they formed a group to take over the running of the four-hectare green space. Not only have they preserved a vital natural environment in the heart of a city, but they have grown into a close community working for everyone’s benefit.
