Better World Video Awards 2024: Curlew River

Farmers and locals fight to save a threatened population of curlews in Oxfordshire

The curlew’s wonderful ‘bubbling’ call is one of the most evocative sounds of springtime in meadows and pastures beside the River Thames in Oxfordshire.  Something we cherish, but which is sadly under threat.  This film celebrates the curlews and the work of the Curlew Recovery Project.

Curlew River is also a call to action. Curlews will need continued support over the coming decades if they are to continue to return to our valleys each year and raise their young successfully. They need extensive areas of grasslands and wetlands if they are to flourish and help to reduce the impact of predators on both their nests and chicks.

This film has been entered in the MPB Geographical Better World Video Awards. See all the entries and the winners.
