Geographical April 2023

23 March 2023
< 1 minute

April 2023

In the April issue of Geographical, we trace the path of tropical storm Odette, which a year ago left seven provinces in the Philippines in ruins. It was the 15th tropical cyclone to hit the archipelago that year and by far the strongest. We visit six of the islands still reeling from its impact and talk to the Filipinos living with this regular destruction with little help from their government and outside agencies.

Nick Redmayne travels across Ukraine, discovering how people are adjusting to living through a war. His moving account of the everyday stresses and strains imposed on the people of Ukraine not only reveals a stoical dignity but the numbing realities of a brutal invasion. Nearer to home Mark Rowe looks at the problems generated by he booming salmon farming industry and Jo Caird reports on how one small plant – sphagnum moss – could solve some very big problems. And don’t miss our regular Geo-graphic, which this month focuses on food waste.
